Physical Education

At Highwoods we love our PE lessons.  We develop a full range of sports and skills during lessons.  We also have a fully qualified specialist coach who teaches outdoor PE lessons with Key Stage 2 pupils.  Year 4 and 5 pupils have the opportunity to have 20 swimming lessons and meet the National Curriculum requirements of swimming 25 metres, being competent in three different strokes, and knowing some key life-saving skills.

We love taking part in competitions and events and are very successful.  At Highwoods, we are aware of the positive impact that sport can have on young people. 'Physical Literacy' means children experience the feelings and emotions conveyed while being active, and feel successful, healthy and part of a team while enjoying sport. Have a look at our newsletters section of the website to see all of our latest successes celebrated.

School Games Mark

We believe in the vision and values associated with the school games mark! We are committed to a universal physical activity offer for all pupils. This means that our pupils have positive experiences of school sport.

Dodge Ball

Our first dodge ball team competed against other primary schools at Colchester Leisure World. They were great sportspeople and showed a brilliant positive attitude throughout the morning.

Archery

We had a brilliant morning at Thunstable School where we competed against other primary schools. Congratulations to Oliver, Anjana, Erin and Robert on coming forth and narrowly missing out on a medal spot!

Top Spot for Boys' football team...

Our team competed in a huge tournament recently and clinched top spot as they finished 1st out of 10 schools- winning 5, drawing 4 and remaining undefeated. They now embark on the area finals!

Bronze Medal in area Finals!

Huge congratulations to our Girls' football team who competed with 15 other schools and ended up with a well deserved 3rd place and bronze medal. The team played wonderfully, conceding only 2 goals and scoring 6. Having topped their group, the team narrowly missed out on top spot in the final winners' group.
